Gallery text, keep it: Human Sushi was drawn as a reflection on anthropocentrism. There is currently a war going on. This work is an added homage to the famous painting by Henri Rousseau. Yellow figures dance over a white plane; black birds sit on plates like courses; pink bodies lie in the foreground; red petals fall. People served as the meal. Name the year 2022 so it is not mixed with the 2021 Human Sushi.
Tanaka’s own series line: we act as kings of all things, and we should think more humbly. The large Human Sushi is the argument at full size — Rousseau’s jungle rewritten as a banquet. It is the picture for a collector who wants the sweet palette and the hard thought in the same frame.
