Arman French, 1928-2005
Arman (born Armand Pierre Fernandez, 1928–2005) was a French-born American artist. Born in Nice, he signed early work with his first name only; he kept a 1958 printer’s misspelling of Arman for the rest of his career.
After studies at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Nice and art history at the École du Louvre in Paris, he developed a practice ranging from drawings and prints to monumental public sculpture and celebrated accumulations of found objects. Strongly influenced by Dada and a strong influence on Pop Art, his work entered major museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Tate, London; and the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
He is presented by The Wall Art Gallery, Miami.
