A woman closes her eyes, and a garden bursts open from the crown of her head. Sunflowers, white daisies, a scarlet gerbera, a full-blown rose, spears of lavender and feathery seed grasses rise where her thoughts would be, so lush they seem to have grown there over a long, quiet season. Below them her face is pure calm, drawn in soft greys: lids lowered, lips at rest, bare shoulders soft and still.
The garden is full of life for those who look. Two monarch butterflies drift at its edges, a blue wren alights just above a spray of purple blooms, a small bee hovers beside the bouquet, and a ladybug waits to be discovered among the stems. Even the placement is deliberate: the purple flowers sit at the 11:11 position, a quiet emblem of synchronicity, of life falling into alignment. Fine threads of green and black paint fly outward into the white space like seeds caught on the wind.
That contrast is the heart of The Garden Girl: color everywhere above, stillness everywhere below. She isn't overwhelmed by what blooms inside her. She is entirely at peace with it, a mind in full flower, every thought, dream and inspiration made visible as something living. Nearly eight feet tall, it reads from across a room as one radiant burst of summer, and up close every petal, wing and feather rewards a slower look.
