Beyond The Seas Of Dreams is a portrait of the inner journey, where music carries the mind far beyond the room. Ashvin Harrison drew his inspiration from the woman who posed for the work, her identity and her journey through life.
She is rendered in Harrison's coconut charcoal realism, head tilted back and eyes closed, her face, neck and shoulders softly modelled in tones of grey. She wears a pair of golden headphones, and one ear cup opens like a porthole onto a hidden seascape: a full moon over a turquoise sea and a single dark sailboat heading for the horizon. It is the quiet centre of the painting, a small world within the figure, suggesting that the true voyage is happening inside.
Around that stillness, her hair explodes into a storm of colour. Long, wind-swept strokes of deep navy, slate, ice blue and gold stream back across the canvas, flecked with peach and black splatter, as if the currents of the sea and the rhythm of the music have become one. In the original painting, sparkle medium runs through the splattered hair, catching the light like spray on water.
The work sits within Harrison's ongoing exploration of music and feeling, where a figure listens to the rhythms within and colour becomes what she hears. Through Motusrealism, his fusion of lifelike charcoal form and expressive abstraction, the painting balances calm and motion: the moon steadies her thoughts while the universe guides her onward. The limited edition consists of 50 prints total, across all sizes. Hand embellished sections are painted by Ashvin himself. Artwork ships rolled, with 1.5-inch (4 cm) mirrored edges beyond the artwork size (gallery wrap) so the image continues on the sides of the stretcher, ready to stretch. Each print is shipped rolled in a protective tube, with complimentary shipping worldwide. If you'd like your piece stretched and framed, we can do it for you and ship it ready to hang, for an additional fee. Just ask us for a quote. We also offer pickup at our Wynwood gallery in Miami.
