High Roller Rhythms turns an antique gramophone into a stage where music and chance play the same game. Ashvin Harrison created the original painting exclusively for the SiGMA Europe charity auction in Malta in 2024, inspired by the thrill of the gaming world, and this hand-embellished edition carries every layer of that story.
The gramophone is rendered in Harrison's signature coconut charcoal realism, its silver horn and carved cabinet drawn with photographic precision in shades of grey. Look closer and the theme reveals itself: the record has become a roulette wheel, its numbered panels spinning beneath the stylus. Chess pieces stand as the columns of the cabinet, and a gold casino chip marked with a spade sits on its front panel. Strategy on the edge of chance.
From the gold-lined bell of the horn, the music erupts into colour. Ribbons of yellow, turquoise, scarlet, violet and black fly across the canvas in long, rhythmic arcs, dense at the source and scattering into fine splatter at the edges. Caught in the current are four aces, one of every suit, and red dice tumbling mid-roll. The artist has said the dice all show sevens, an impossible roll he describes as his nod to luck, myth and the hidden mathematics of fate. He also challenges viewers to find a secret eight ball.
The work belongs to Harrison's long fascination with music, where an instrument becomes a source of pure movement. Here the tension is between precision and spontaneity: the still, disciplined charcoal against the wild, unrepeatable splash of acrylic. The gramophone becomes a metaphor for the self, each of us playing our own soundtrack into the world without knowing exactly what will come out.
Each print in this edition is finished by Ashvin himself, with acrylic paint added by hand over the archival giclée, so no two are exactly alike.
The limited edition consists of 50 prints total, across all sizes. Hand embellished sections are painted by Ashvin himself. Artwork ships rolled, with 1.5-inch (4 cm) mirrored edges beyond the artwork size (gallery wrap) so the image continues on the sides of the stretcher, ready to stretch. Each print is shipped rolled in a protective tube, with complimentary shipping worldwide. If you'd like your piece stretched and framed, we can do it for you and ship it ready to hang, for an additional fee. Just ask us for a quote. We also offer pickup at our Wynwood gallery in Miami. Delivery takes 1–3 weeks, depending on destination. Prices increase every 10 editions sold. Certificate of authenticity provided.
