Werner Bronkhorst is a contemporary artist born in Pretoria, South Africa, on 18 June 2001. He lives and works in Sydney, Australia.
Originally arriving for a gap year, he stayed permanently. After years of schoolboy art-making he worked as a bespoke furniture designer and craftsman, then returned to painting when he and his partner Charli were expecting their daughter Florence in 2022. Working first on leftover building materials, he posted process videos online; by late 2022 the work reached a wide audience.
Two strands define the practice: textured abstract grounds populated by tiny hyper-realistic figures engaged in skiing, surfing, driving, and walking; and detailed charcoal car drawings interrupted by thick painted text. He has collaborated with Porsche and TAG Heuer around the Australian Grand Prix, and in 2026 announced HIGH, a major exhibition in Berlin. He is presented by The Wall Art Gallery, Miami.
