Liu Bolin Chinese, b. 1973
Liu Bolin is a contemporary concealment artist born in Shandong province, China, in 1973. He lives and works in Beijing.
He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Shandong College of Arts (1995) and a Master of Fine Arts from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing (2001). Also known as “the invisible man,” he is best known for the Hiding in the City series — photographic works that began as performance art in 2005 after the demolition of the artists’ village where he worked in Beijing, ahead of the 2008 Olympics.
His work has been exhibited in museums internationally. He belongs to the generation that came of age in the early 1990s as China emerged from the Cultural Revolution into rapid economic growth. He is presented by The Wall Art Gallery, Miami.
